PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe softball team hosted the Russia Raiders in a doubleheader on Saturday and also recognized three seniors for senior day.

All three seniors are four-year varsity players with stellar careers. Recognized was center fielder Morgan Booher, shortstop Morgan Bingham and catcher Carrie Baker.

Unfortunately for Booher it would be frustrating for her as she had to watch from the dugout due to illness but is hopeful to be back in action soon.

Baker and Bingham, however, did play and came up big in the game, sparking a come-from-behind win after trailing 7-1 in in the contest.

Baker went 3-for-5 in the game including two doubles and scoring two runs.

Bingham went 3-for-4 and also scored two runs.

After trailing 1-0, Nychelle Cool doubled to center field to tie the game in the first inning.

The Raiders extended their lead to 7-1 until Brigette Filbrun singled to right field to score Bingham to make it 7-2.

Baker led off the fifth inning with a double to get things started and she scored on a single by Emilee Morris.

Morris then scored on a single by Allie Armstrong, and Armstrong scored on a double by Bingham to make the score 7-5.

The Raiders would get two runs back in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 9-5.

Franklin Monroe kept the hot bats rolling in the bottom of the sixth with Filbrun getting on base with an infield single and she scored on an RBI double from Baker.

Baker then scored on a single by Kennedy Morris, and Morris took home on a passed ball to make the score 9-8.

The Jets held strong in the top of the seventh and went to work right away as lead-off hitter Armstrong got in going with a single.

Bingham followed with a single and then a wild pitch put runners at second and third with no outs.

Filbrun, who went 4-for-4 on the day, singled for the fourth time in the game, and the bases were loaded.

Baker would hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Bingham to tie the game 9-9.

With the Jets down to their last out Morris, who went 3-for-4 on the day, came up big, hitting the game winner between the third baseman and left fielder to score Filbrun to pull off an exciting come-from-behind win.

Morris was the pitcher of record for FM, picking up the win on five strikeouts and is now 12-9 on the year.

There would be no dramatic come-back in the second game of the doubleheader as the Jets fell 13-10 in another high-scoring game.
