GREENVILLE – Allison Minnich and Sydney threw perfect game with 15 strikeouts as the Greenville softball team run ruled Belmont 10-0 on Wednesday in the Lady Wave’s Ohio High School Athletic Association sectional tournament opener.

While Belmont couldn’t get any offense going, the Lady Wave came out strong from the beginning of the game and scored six first inning runs.

Karsyn Shaffer doubled to center field to lead off the bottom half of the first inning. Alli Hill then hit a RBI single to center for a 1-0 lead.

After Cassie Cromwell was hit by a pitch, Makayla Hanes hit a gapper for a RBI double. Ashton Kester then hit a RBI double into center field, Sydney Grote hit a RBI double into center, and Jazzlyn Petry hit a RBI single.

In the second inning Greenville added two more runs to make it 8-0. Hill walked and then stole second and third before scoring a run. Kester singled, stole second and third and scored. Greenville’s three outs in the inning all came from runners leaving bases early.

In the third Logan Tabler was walked and then the Lady Waves pitch ran Madelyn Breig. Shilt, Shaffer and Alexis Byers were all walked, scoring Breig. Tess McClure then hit a RBI single to center, making it 10-0. The Lady Wave ended the inning on three runners leaving base early.

“This was a great game,” Greenville coach Jerrod Newland said. “We need to win six to get to Akron and eight to win it all. This was step one for the Olympic team. This is the results of the process we put together to get the Bisons for game one.

“Today there were 180 teams playing for the tournaments. After today, there will only be 90 left in the tournament. We had great pitching, Minnich pitched a great perfect game, and we are now moving on to the next game.”

The Wave had nine hits and no errors and Belmont had no hits and no errors. The Lady Wave will take on Thurgood Marshall on Thursday.
