Greenville’s Noah Haupt, Craig Manges advance to OHSAA district tennis tournament

TROY – Greenville’s Noah Haupt and Craig Manges won their first three matches in the Ohio High School Athletic Association sectional tournament to qualify for the district tournament.

Haupt and Manges, who played first and second singles during the regular season, teamed up in the sectional tournament. In their first match together they defeated Luke Curtin and Phil Lipsey of Wayne 6-0, 6-1. The duo then swept Steven Wu and Kyle Higgins of Stebbins 6-0, 6-0 before defeating the fourth seeded team of Aashi Patel and Jonathan Manning from Springfield 6-0, 6-3 to qualify for districts.

Haupt and Manges then lost 6-0, 6-1 to the sectional tournament’s top team and eventual sectional champions, Troy’s Carter Hench and Jack Johhnson. In the third place match, Greenville’s duo lost to the second seeded team, Will Sims and Allen Ebe of Tecumseh, 6-2, 6-4.

Haupt and Manges now will advance to the district tournament, which will be held on Thursday at Centerville High School.

The rest of Greenville’s tennis players ended their seasons in the sectional tournament.

The Green Wave’s other doubles team, Alex Lance and Tyler Davis, lost 6-0, 6-1 to Carter Hench and Jack Johnston in their first match.

In singles Greenville’s Quintin Muhlenkamp defeated Vandalia-Butler’s Levi Schidecker 6-0, 6-0 then lost to Piqua’s Josh Hanes 7-6 (7), 6-7 (6), 6-3.

The Wave’s Austin Grote defeated Piqua’s JJ Rohrbach 6-1, 6-1 then lost to Troy’s Shane Essick 6-3, 6-0.

Greenville’s Josh Smith defeated Northmont’s Josh Farinet 6-1, 6-0 then lost to Fairborn’s Nhat Mai 6-1, 6-1.
