Downtown Greenville open late Fridays in June

GREENVILLE — Several downtown businesses are hoping to draw more visitors downtown to kickoff their weekends by taking advantage of the fine June weather for extended hours on Fridays.

The popular downtown First Friday events see businesses keeping their doors open later on those evenings, and the visitors who come downtown for the activities are happy to patronize the shops and eateries as well.

Throughout the month of June for every Friday, downtown businesses will be participating in what is being billed as “Late Night / Date Night,” but singles, families and those who are “just good friends” are welcome to enjoy an evening downtown, as well.

Thus far, the businesses committed to participate already number more than 20, with lots of drinking, dining and shopping options.

For drinks and/or dining downtown, Fridays in June The Bistro Off Broadway, The Coffee Pot, D’Alessios, The Don’s Pizza, The Merchant House, Danny’s Place, Janet’s Broadway Bakery and Brenda’s Beanery will be open late. Reservations are recommended for dinner.

Shopping hours will be extended into the evening at The Ivy League, Sadie Grace, Readmore’s Hallmark, The Blue Bow Boutique, The Cozy Nest, The Bootery, The Candy Bouquet, Sweet Annie’s Cabin, Youniques Boutique, Countryside Bike Shop (open until 8 p.m.), Gray House Games, Merle Norman and Country Primitives.

Entertainment will be available at Doug’s Arcade, and it’s likely some other businesses and Main Street Greenville will come up with some entertainment surprises along the way.

The regular First Friday event will still be happening in June on the 3rd. The event will feature live music and a volunteer fair. Local nonprofits will have the opportunity to showcase their organizations and potentially recruit volunteers. Local musicians will provide entertainment throughout downtown.

Downtown Planting Day, which was postponed from May 14 because of the weather, has been rescheduled for May 21 from 8 to 11 a.m. Anyone who would like to help out should contact Main Street Greenville at 937-548-4998 for instructions.
