Versailles baseball team defeats Fort Recovery

VERSAILLES – In a tune up for its regional tournament baseball game, Versailles beat fellow Midwest Athletic Conference team Fort Recovery 6-1 on Tuesday.

Versailles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and held the one-run advantage until the top of the fifth when Fort Recovery tied the game. The Tigers regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth and scored four insurance runs in the sixth to win by five.

Versailles had 10 hits and no errors in the game while Fort Recovery had four hits and four errors.

Kyle Subler went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run and three RBIs for Versailles. Keaton McEldowney was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a stole base. Austin Knapke was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run.

Isaac Ruhenkamp went 1-for-1. Brett McEldowney was 1-for-4. Jared Niekamp walked once, scored a run and drove in a run. Cole Niekamp walked once and scored two runs. Adam Lyons walked once and scored a run.

Jacob Heitkamp earned the win as he pitched three innings, allowing no runs on two hits, two walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts. Lyons pitched one inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Ruhenkamp pitched an inning, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and no strikeouts.

Cole Niekamp pitched one inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks, one hit batter and one strikeout. Keaton McEldowney pitched an inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
