Graduation time is here again– caps, gowns, and parties! It’s a joyous occasion for graduates and families.
Two members of the Butterflies Junior Garden Club will be graduating from Greenville Senior High School and we will miss having them at our meetings.
Haley Baker has been a member for three years. She says, “Garden club has been an amazing experience where I have not only learned about floral design but met many kind-hearted, lifelong friends.”
What makes me proud of Haley is that she came into the club with such great creative talent and we were able to see her have some wonderful projects for the Darke County Fair flower shows. Haley has always been willing to help in any area that we needed her and always wears that wonderful smile. She has served as the Arbor Day chairperson for the juniors and worked with Barb Skinner of the Ladybug Garden Club to select some wonderful trees.
For this summer she plans on working and enjoying the warm weather and then experience what comes next in her life. Haley will be going to Indiana University East, Richmond, Indiana in the fall, majoring in education. Good luck, Haley!
Olivia Herron has been in the junior garden club for nine years. When asked what has interested her most in the garden club she stated, “I love garden club for its projects. I love seeing all the different classes come together at the fair. I also love the club for its people – it’s fun to be around such a passionate group of young girls.”
Olivia, too, has shown some great creative abilities. But early in the junior garden club work, she came to our large cutting garden, at the time, and helped me weed! Now, that’s a great young lady! She has been our secretary for four years and we’re going to miss her as well.
She will be working at Greenville Federal Bank over the summer before she heads to Miami University in Oxford, to double major in political science and strategic communications.
Both girls have been great role models for younger members in the club. Both girls have helped in every job at our flower shows and have been great supporters to other members.
Both girls have expressed a desire to complete the projects for the upcoming flower shows and participate till the day they leave for school.
So, for Olivia and Haley, as you embark on a new journey, our tribute to you is to never stop learning. We stand and give cheers to honor you for all the work you have done and really applaud you. May you always be a listener and learn from all you meet – always keep a student’s spirit and your life will be complete as you continue down your garden path.
