VERSAILLES — Family and friends of members of the Versailles High School class of 2016 witnessed the turning of the tassels Sunday afternoon.
The school handed diplomas to 107 graduates during the school’s annual commencement exercises.
Seven students shared valedictorian honors — Jessica Rose Ahrens, Quincy William Baltes, Madison Rose Grilliot, Kristin Lynn Langston, Collin Robert Peters, Rachel Anne Shellhaas, and Megan Nicole VanSkyock — each of whom briefly spoke to their classmates.
Versailles Superintendent Aaron Moran exhorted the graduates to surround themselves with good people, take risks and be thoughtful to others.
“You never know when a positive experience will take you to a place you didn’t expect,” he said.
The class motto, attributed to Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, was “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
