Joely Bertram chosen ‘Little Miss Poultry Days’ at festival

VERSAILLES — Joely Bertram, 6-year-old daughter of Joe Bertram and Molly McGuire of Farmland, Indiana, was named Little Miss Poultry Days Friday night during the 32nd annual pageant at the festival.

First runner-up went to Nadia Bolin, 6, daughter of Josh and Carly Bolin of Versailles, while second runner-up was Maggie DeLand, 6-year-old daughter of Tim and Katie DeLand of North Star.

Thirty girls between the ages of 4 and 6 competed in the annual event, which was chaired by Kimberly Hecht. Maggie Dabbelt of Greenville served as mistress of ceremonies for the first time this year.

Judges were Lena Durst of Greenville, Rebecca Vagedes of Versailles and Traci Gambill of Bradford.

Escorting the candidates were last year’s Miss Chick Court, comprised of Christa Puthoff, Taylor Stover and Rachel Osterloh.

Last year’s Little Miss Poultry Days court was also in attendance. They are the 2015 Little Miss Rhylan Broerman, daughter of Nick and Amber Broerman; First Runner-up Averi Ahrns, daughter of Karl and Tyanna Ahrns; and Second Runner-up Caleigh Stebbins, daughter of Jason and Mindy Stebbins.

Judging for this year’s contestants were attire [originality of design and appropriate to poultry theme] 50 percent; and personality, poise and ability to speak, 50 percent. The theme this year was “A Salute to the American Farmer.”
