New Madison News: More summertime fun

0

A little dampness didn’t spoil the holiday over the Fourth of July as good food, fellowship and flashing color in the night sky made for a full day of summer fun in the village. The finale was the fireworks display and it never fails to get oohs, wow!.. and lots of traffic in the town.

The rain in the area was appreciated as the field crops and gardens soaked up the moisture.

This sets off the second month of activities at the New Madison Public Library’s reading program. If you missed earlier presentations, write in on Friday for “Giddy Up and Go” when Amy Loy will talk about horses and camping. All ages are invited and some creative plans are underway to add fun to the day. The program starts at 3 p.m.

The very appropriate Library Olympics will happen from 4 to 5 p.m. on July 21. Competition in book races, aisle sprints, speed shelving and child herding are planned for children ages 5 and over. This carefully supervised event should be an hour of lively activity.

The Lego Club meets from 3 to 4 p.m. on the 26th. This popular activity is open to Lego enthusiasts with challenging projects. The summer’s “Finish Line” is planned from 2 to 3 p.m. July 29 in the backyard for snacks and games. All ages are invited. If you have questions, contact the library at 996-1741.

Harrison Street Baptist Church, 140 S. Harrison St., New Madison, invites kids ages 4 through seventh grade to come to “Submerged.” This will be the theme of Bible School this month as lessons are directed at finding the truth below the surface where the truth is God’s love and creation. The Bible School is starting July 17 and continuing through July 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each night there will be Bible study, fun songs, and the importance of missions and caring for others used as the theme. Games, snacks and prizes are planned. The event culminates with family night on July 22nd. For more information, call 996-4194 or visit www.harrisonstreetbaptistchurch.com

The town is still buzzing over the accomplishment of Clayton Murphy, Tri-Village graduate. We have a direct connection to Rio when the Olympics feature field and track. He will be representing the United States in the 800-meter race. The former Patriot runner has been at the University of Akron since graduation and has followed a steady path to this elite accomplishment.

Congratulations this week to David Barger. The former Patriot is now head basketball coach at Union City. He has coached girls basketball and middle school sports. He helped with the Tri-Village team during the state championship season and has been varsity assistant coach at Tipp City.

Congratulations to: A golden wedding anniversary was marked June 25 by Jerry and Linda Oler of New Madison. Don and Nancy Miller celebrated 40 years in June.
