GREENVILLE – The Greenville Police Department is investigating two armed robberies, occurring within a few hours of each other, on Thursday.

The first robbery happened at the Subway restaurant, 325 Martin St. at around 3:50 p.m. An employee told officers that an unknown male walked into the restaurant while he was in the back room. When he returned to the front, he met the suspect at the counter.

The employee told officers the suspect, who was holding a knife, told him to “pop the drawer.” The employee handed the cash drawer to the suspect, who pulled all the money from it and ran out of the building.

The suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie that was worn tightly around the head, black athletic pants, large sunglasses and a green bandanna around the nose and mouth and gray Moto-Cross gloves on his hands. The employee could not tell the suspect’s skin color, but said he was approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall and was of a thin body build.

The second robbery happened around 7:11 p.m. at Walgreens Pharmacy, 1001 E. Main St. Dispatch received the call from the store as the robbery was in progress.

The suspect entered the store and went to the pharmacy counter. He asked the pharmacy tech if she could fill a prescription for Oxycontin. She told him yes, but she would need his prescription. He reached into a messenger-style bag, produced a handgun, and demanded, “all the Oxycontin.”

The suspect pulled back the slide on the gun, described to be a Colt 1911 with a cobalt or darker metal grip.

Another pharmacy tech retrieved several bottles of medications and put them in the suspect’s bag.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 50s or 60s, with shorter grayish hair, wearing a cowboy hat with a number on the front. He had on a dark colored button-down shirt, dark pants and was wearing sunglasses.

Shortly before officers arrived, the suspect fled the store. Officers with the assistance of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office searched the nearby area for the suspect, but only located the cowboy hat with the number 14 on it.
