DNC 2016: Ohio delegate, 19, calls nomination night ‘electric’

Things came full circle for Spencer Dirrig as he watched Hillary Clinton receive the Democratic nomination for president.

Dirrig, 19, is an Ohio delegate and freshman at Ohio State. This is the first presidential election he is allowed to vote in, but Dirrig is no stranger to politics. Dirrig volunteered for the Clinton campaign in 2008, and then for President Obama when he won the nomination.

When Sen. Bernie Sanders made the motion to stop the roll call, Dirrig called the moment “surreal,” and it brought his journey with the Clinton campaign full circle.

“(Roll call) was electric,” Dirrig said, adding that the excitement was “unbelievable.”
