VERSAILLES – Coaches from college and high school teams led the Summer Slam volleyball camp last week at Versailles High School.
Among the camp leaders were coaches from NCAA Division I program Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne. They worked with high school teams from Coldwater, Crestview, Elida, Marion Local, St. Henry, St. Marys and Versailles.
“I say the same things over and over again,” first-year Versailles varsity volleyball coach Kenzie Bruggeman said of the coaches coming in to work with the high school teams. “Sometimes it’s just easier to understand (when said by someone else).”
During the annual camp the coaches worked on concepts such as ball control and running various offenses with the high school teams.
Bruggeman said she received a lot of compliments from the coaches about her 14 players who attended the camp.
“I think that says a lot for the girls who were in the camp,” Bruggeman said.
Versailles is coming off another strong season in volleyball, having advanced to the regional portion of the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament last year. Bruggeman, who was an assistant coach on that team, said she’s excited about the Lady Tigers’ potential for the upcoming season.
“I’m excited to have a lot of returning lettermen coming back,” she said. “Hopefully that will turn into leadership.”
