Hurd wins title of Miss Annie Oakley


VERSAILLES — Katie Hurd out-shot five other contestants Thursday evening to become this year’s Miss Annie Oakley.

She won the competition from 100 feet away from the balloon target at York Woods north of Greenville off of U.S. 127.

A junior at Greenville High School, Hurd was sponsored by C.F. Poeppelman Inc. The 16-year-old daughter of Kris and Dean Hurd.

First runner-up in the contest went to Megan Elizabeth Troutwine, sophomore at Ansonia High School and daughter of Larry and Marlene Troutwine, Ansonia. Her sponsors were Ansonia Lumber and Ansonia Auto Parts, while second runner-up was Morgan Hissong, 15-year-old daughter of Dave and Annie Hissong and a sophomore at Franklin Monroe High School. She was sponsored by Greenville Farm Power of the Past.

Troutwine was eliminated when she missed the target on the 100th round and Hissong’s placement was determined in a tie-breaker between her and Kelsey Gilbert. Gilbert, sponsored by Greenville chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is the 17-year-old daughter of Nicole and Toby Gilbert of Greenville and is a senior.

Hurd also won the best costume Wednesday night at practice.

Others competing this year were Hannah Bingham, 17-year-old daughter of Kim and Larry Bingham, sponsored by Chillz Yogurt, and is a senior at Greenville Senior High; Lyla Carrington, sophomore at Greenville High School, daughter of Amber DeRegnaucourt and Mike Carrington and sponsored by her grandmother, Susan DeRegnaucourt.

Dennis Soward was in charge of the competition, and was assisted by wife Shelly, son Shaun and father-in-law, Arnold Riffell.
