DAYTON — The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is offering rebates to customers for recycling inefficient appliances. Replacing older appliances saves on energy costs and helps protect the environment.
DP&L will rebate customers $50 for each working refrigerator or freezer and $20 on room air conditioners and dehumidifiers. The room air conditioners and dehumidifiers will be collected only during pick-ups of refrigerators and freezers at the same location. Refrigerators and freezers must be 10-30 cubic feet. Residential and business customers may recycle appliances. All units collected must be standard-sized – not commercial – appliances.
Household appliances account for nearly 13 percent of the average electrical bill, installing new higher efficiency appliances provides an opportunity for real savings on energy costs.
“DP&L recognizes how much our customers value the convenience of our appliance recycling program and the benefit it provides to the environment,” said DP&L President and CEO Tom Raga. “We are pleased to offer the program and to expand it to include smaller appliances.”
The rebate for recycling appliances is part of DP&L’s ongoing energy efficiency efforts for customers, which also include rebates on new heat pumps and air conditioners, discounts on energy-efficient lighting, and rebates for business customers.
Customers may make an appointment to have old appliances picked up – at no charge – call 877-889-4765 or visit www.dpandl.com/recycle.
DP&L is partnering with a new vendor ARCA Inc., an international company with 40 years of innovation and experience in energy efficiency and responsible appliance disposal, providing customers with an easy and responsible method to recycle old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers, as well as select small appliances. ARCA’s recycling centers salvage materials in refrigerators and freezers with the goal of protecting natural resources from the environmentally-damaging substances found in older appliances.
