Tri-Village football team hosts Twin Valley South in its 1st scrimmage

NEW MADISON – Tri-Village hosted its first varsity football scrimmage this year, facing Twin Valley South Saturday morning.

The Patriots fared well in two series of eight possessions that each team got in the first half of the scrimmage. The Patriots scored on two rushing touchdowns from Jared Buckley including one from 66 yards out.

South was never able to score in the limited possessions.

In the second part of the scrimmage that mirrored real game situations for two quarters the Patriots struggled stopping Twin Valley South from moving the football.

The Panthers won the second half of the scrimmage 21-12.

Tri-Village, after establishing the run in the first half of the scrimmage, and with many new faces, worked more on the spread and looked good doing it for the most part.

Senior quarterback Jonny Wilson threw a 63 yarder to Noah Burns for a score and later a 10 yarder to Trace Couch. The Patriots were stopped just once when TVS picked off an errant pass, returning it for the score.

In the junior varsity scrimmage the Patriots came out on top with one score while shutting out South.

Overall, it was a good first scrimmage for a Patriot team taking on a future Cross Country Conference foe in 2017.

“I felt like offensively we were able to make some plays,” Tri-Village coach Jason Schondelmyer said. “We had one time where we didn’t take care of the ball that we need to clean up … but other than that I’m pretty pleased offensively. Defensively we have to attack more. We were too passive and on our heels and will need to do a better job of maintaining our gaps inside. We stayed injury free and got some film to evaluate so we can continue to improve this week in practice.”

The Patriots will have on more scrimmage at home versus Troy Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The price of admission is $3.
