VERSAILLES — John A. McEldowney, age 87, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at his residence. John was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Darke County to the late Leo and Ethel (Simon) McEldowney.

John served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. John was a truck driver. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

John is survived by his wife, Joyce A. (Robison) McEldowney whom he married June 5, 1965; brothers and sister-in-law, Cletus and Pat McEldowney of Arcanum and Jerome “Jerry” McEldowney of St. Marys; sister, Jeanette Monnin of Russia; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

John was also preceded in death by his sisters, Winifred Davidson, Bertha “Bert” Young, Katherine McClurg, Virginia Weyandt and Thelma Shade; brothers-in-law, Robert Davidson, Richard McClurg, Bob Weyandt, Denis Monnin and Francis Shade; and sister-in-law, Barb McEldowney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. James Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington with military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday morning from 9-10 a.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
