GREENVILLE — Greenville City Schools administrators and Board of Education members examined the progress being made at the new K-8 building during a walk-through at the facility held Thursday evening.
Bruce Miller of the engineering firm Garmann-Miller & Associates, said the south part of the building is approximately 90 percent complete, while the north half is 75 percent done. Work on the building is progressing from the south to the north, according to Miller.
Work on the grounds outside the building, including parking areas and playground, will commence once work on the building is largely completed.
The K-8 building is scheduled to be completed November 15, 2016, with students slated to begin using the school after their return from winter break.
Later on Thursday, the board held its regular monthly session.
The board presented certificates of commendation to Greenville High School Auto Tech students in honor of their performance at this year’s Skills USA national competition in Louisville, Kentucky.
Recognized were Bryan Flory, Alyson Hardy and Jacob Mann, who comprised the Auto Tech Presenting Team, which won third place in the competition. Also honored was Jondalar Apple, who competed in the singles category, placing 11th out of 48 students. Instructors Jim Anderson and Travis Nicholas were also on hand.
The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office for the transfer of a bus for training use by deputies.
A resolution for a rental agreement with Edison State Community College for use of Greenville’s Advanced Manufacturing Facility from August 29 to December 16 was approved. Edison will conduct classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings, paying the school 25 percent of total tuition collected.
Career Tech Director Stan Hughes told the board the classes have already come close to being filled.
The board approved lunch rates for grades K-8 ($2.75) and 9-12 ($2.85).
The employment of Andrew Grasty as the school district’s transportation supervisor was approved for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years.
The Greenville City Schools Board of Education meets the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. Meetings are held in the Anna Bier Civic Room at St. Clair Memorial Hall, 215 West Fourth Street in Greenville. Sessions are open to the public. Meeting times and dates are subject to change.
