UNION CITY – Mississinawa Valley took on Arcanum looking to get the upset in its final regular season match to get to 500.

It was an emotional night as the Blackhawks honored six seniors playing on the home floor for the last time.

The Hawks fell short on the night and at times must have felt like they were playing against an impenetrable wall. Arcanum had very few chinks in the armor and played a solid game, winning out in three sets, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17.

With the win Arcanum finished the regular season at 18-4 overall and a second place finish in the conference 10-2 behind league winner Miami East.

“We are playing really solid right now,” Arcanum volleyball coach Macey O’Dell said. “It’s a great time to be playing well, and we are peaking at the right time.

“Shai Robinson, Stevie Johnting and Audrey Heiser, my freshman, all played well at the net tonight, and our backrow was excellent as well. Our overall team play was solid,” O’Dell concluded.

Arcanum will play in the Brookville sectional as the No. 4 seed at 11 a.m. Saturday against Northeastern at Brookville High School.

Mississinawa honored six seniors on the night, and they were Mikayla Stump, Ana Carol Zappa, Kelsie Hunt, Spencer Warren, Shaiann Livingston and Madison Stachler.

It was an emotional night for Mississinawa coach Billie Hunt with her daughter being one of those seniors.

“This was a great group of girls, and it’s very emotional for me right now … but I just want to thank them for their hard work and dedication, and it will be hard to say goodbye,” Coach Hunt said.

Mississinawa dropped to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

The Blackhawks will play in the Arcanum sectional as the No. 19 seed and will take on Lehman Catholic, the No. 6 seed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
