New Madison News: Maul to speak on science, religion

Have you ever questioned how science and religion can be reconciled?

An evening of discussion and consideration of this topic is planned at the United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. Justin Saul of Miami University has been scheduled as the guest speaker and the public is invited to participate.

The format will have Saul of Miami University’s faculty presenting his work in bio-engineering science as coexisting with his religious faith. After sharing his personal acceptance that life can encompass scientific and spiritual truths, then a question-and-answer segment is planned. This will be a social setting with coffee and cookies. Earlier the church offered a study of different faiths and this opened many questions. This presentation is a continuation of expanding our understanding of faith in America. If you have questions, contact Pastor Carol Duffield at 937-273-0100.

The church is planning a safe station earlier on Sunday with hot dogs for all of the Halloween participants. The church is located at 149 N. Main St. Ghosts and princesses will move up and down the village streets from 2 to 4 p.m. asking for candy and safe treats. Keep a close eye for excited youngsters darting into the street and greet them with a smile and “Happy Halloween.”

Remember to drop off your flags that are ready for retirement. The American Legion is accepting them. This patriotic organization will then burn them in a ceremony of respect and honor. They plan to have flag burning on Nov. 11. There will be the annual bean supper. Breakfast is served from 7 to 10 every week day morning and its burgers and fries on Thursdays.

Enjoy the autumn. Leaves are starting to turn colors and dust is flying from bean and corn fields.
