Mississinawa Valley volleyball team loses to Lehman Catholic in OHSAA tournament

ARCANUM – Mississinawa Valley ran into a very strong Lehman Catholic volleyball team in the opening round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division IV Arcanum sectional tournament.

The Cavaliers used a strong presence at the net and strong hitting to overwhelm the Blackhawks in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-12 and 25-9.

MV competed in the first set but just couldn’t make enough plays to get the momentum in its favor.

“We came out ready to play, and when we got into the second set our girls started to doubt themselves, questioning their play, and we struggled with our confidence, and I’m not sure why,” coach Billie Hunt said.

The Blackhawks never really challenged the rest of the way out … but for Coach Hunt it will be hard for her to see this group of seniors go.

“We had a superb group of seniors, and I hate to see us go out the way we did. Toward the end of the season we were playing pretty good,” Hunt said.

Graduating will be Kelsie Hunt, Madison Stachler, Mikayla Stump, Shaiann Livingston, Spencer Warren and Carolina Zappa Rezenda.

“As hard as it is for me to say goodbye to the seniors we have a great group of girls returning next year. I can’t say enough about the way Makenna Price is coming along and Sidnie Hunt has all the skills and tools but needs play with more confidence. Amanda Armstrong, Kinsie Blocher and Stevie Keen will all be coming back so we have something to look forward to next year,” Hunt concluded.

The Blackhawks finished just under .500 and in the middle of the pack in the Cross County Conference and will be looking to improve in the offseason to compete next year.
