Abbottsville United Methodist Church invites you to their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 12 with serving to start at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served for a good will donation of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, bread dressing, cole slaw, cucumber salad, cranberry salad, deviled eggs, punch and coffee. Dessert will feature assorted homemade pies and cakes! Stop by 4135 State Route 49 on the 12th for a delicious meal and some fellowship!

Nominations Being Accepted for Distinguished Alumni and Honorary Hall of Fame – Arcanum-Butler Local Schools and the Alumni Association will again be honoring our Distinguished Alumni and Honorary Trojans to recognize and honor those individuals who have made a significant impact through achievements, actions and contributions within their communities and professions and serve as exemplary role models for Arcanum students. The Alumni Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at the Arcanum Alumni Homecoming set for April 22, 2017. Nomination Forms are available in the alumni section of the website or can be picked up in the Board of Education office. Completed forms are due by February 1.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society (AWTHS) invites you to their program on November 10 at 7 p.m. entitled “Stories Behind our Acquisitions” by Carolyn Furlong. Many items have been donated to AWTHS during the past 12 years. Some help tell the history of our area, others help demonstrate a way of life that our grandparents and parents lived. To learn the stories behind these items and how they were acquired come sit a spell and hear Acquisitions Chairperson Carolyn Furlong share about some of the interesting and special items in their collections; in some cases – mysterious items. You may have questions regarding something you have seen on display. If they don’t have the answer perhaps someone in attendance will know the answer. The event is free and every one is welcomed.

Members of the ATWHS are busy getting ready for their annual Christmas Extravaganza November 25 6-8 p.m. and November 26 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Bazaar will again feature gently use Christmas items as well as up-cycled wreaths, garlands and table decorations.

Arcanum will showcase a new holiday event this year called “Fall into Christmas” at Brumbaugh Fruit Farm. Brumbaugh Fruit Farm is a family run business that has been serving the community of Arcanum and Darke County since 1968. The festive holiday event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature craft vendors and artisans from the local Darke County area. The farm will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland with festive Christmas lights, holiday décor, live nativity scene and petting zoo along with Biblical characters in costume, chainsaw artist carving up unique gift ideas and live Christmas carols and music throughout the day.

Santa Claus will also be making an appearance to visit the kids from 2 to 5 p.m.

The event will include three food trucks for the day from Darke and Miami County including Grumpy’s BBQ from Greenville featuring pulled pork, brisket and butterfly pork chops, Tin Roof Mobile Food from Fletcher featuring farm raised beef, pork, steak and chicken, and Crème de la Crème Cakery from Arcanum featuring gourmet cupcakes, cupcake sundaes, gourmet caramel apples and deep fried desserts. The “Fun Farm” will also be open for families to enjoy the many activities the farm offers including: Billy Bee’s Flight O’Fun, Storybook Forest, Monster Mountain, Grandpa’s Fun Acre, Human Hampster Wheel, Willy Worm Wagon Express, Winnie’s Cracked Corn Box and hayrides.

Admission price to the Fun Farm (optional) is $8 or SAVE $3 when you bring three can goods for the Thanksgiving Food Drive which will be donated to the FHC Fellowship Church and Faith United Methodist Church in Arcanum. Organizers are still looking for additional craft vendors and musically talented individuals who would like to perform Christmas music for the event. The Pitsburg Church of the Brethren will host the Hoosier Harmony Quartet on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. The members of Hoosier Harmony, Tom Correll (Tenor), Johnathon Dodrill (Lead), Johnny Dodrill (Baritone) and Steve Bahler (Bass and Manager) are true examples of what God’s Grace and Forgiveness can do in the lives of individuals. If you love Southern Gospel Quartet music, especially the “old songs”, you will love the harmony and testimony of the Hoosier Harmony Quartet. Pitsburg COB is located at the west edge of Pitsburg, Ohio at 8376 Pitsburg-Laura Road. The public is invited to come and listen to this nationally known gospel singing quartet.
