GREENVILLE — A 29-year-old man accused of sex crimes against a minor made his first appearance in court Wednesday.
Kyle L. McGlothin, of Rossburg, Ohio, was arraigned in Darke County Common Pleas Court via a video linkup with the Darke County Jail, where he is currently incarcerated.
McGlothin was arrested October 31. He is charged with six felony counts — two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery, two counts of gross sexual imposition — involving a female child under the age of 10. The acts purportedly took place at his home sometime from January to September 2016, according to the prosecutor’s office.
When Judge Jonathan Hein explained the charges and their maximum penalties to McGlothin, the accused became visibly upset, breaking down into tears.
If convicted on all counts, McGlothin could face two life sentences without parole, an additional 26 years in prison, and could pay fines of up to $90,000.
Assistant Prosecutor Deborah Quigley asked the court to impose a $250,000 bond on McGlothin.
“The gravity of the charges are such that the defendent is possibly facing life without parole. Given the nature of the offenses, the penalties involved, the fact that the victim in this case was under 10 years old,” she said.
McGlothin, who had yet to obtain legal counsel or a state-appointed attorney at the time of the arraignment, asked the court that he be released under his own recognizance. This was denied.
Judge Hein set his bond at $100,000. McGlothin’s next court appearance is November 28.
