DARKE COUNTY — In the race for a seat on the Darke County Board of Commissioners, Republican Matt Aultman defeated Democrat Leon Rogers.

The two were running for the seat currently held by Republican Diane Delaplane, who decided against seeking reelection to the board after serving two four-year terms.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting in, the unofficial results showed Aultman winning with 76.94 percent of the vote (13,575 votes) versus Rogers’ 23.06 percent (4,068 votes).

Aultman called the numbers “pretty amazing.”

“I wasn’t expecting that,” he said.

He will join fellow Republicans Mike Stegall and Mike Rhoades on the board. Rhoades was reelected as commissioner in an uncontested race.

“I’d like to thank my supporters along the way,” said Aultman. “The ones who’ve shared kind words, and shared their time. I look forward to what the next four years brings for me.”

Aultman will be required to resign his currently held positions on the Darke County Fair Board and with the Darke County Chamber of Commerce, but promised that he will continue to interact with those bodies as commissioner.

Aultman expressed thanks his family as well as to the voters for electing him commissioner.

“I’d like to thank my family which has supported me over the past year and a half. I’ve learned a lot through this process and hopefully will learn a lot more as commissioner,” he said.
