Along the Garden Path: ‘Ladybug Favorites’ Cookbook in print

0

Within the last year, the Ladybug Garden Club met at the Greenville City Park for a fun evening of a treasure hunt around the park and a hearty meal of favorite dishes made by the members.

As we were having our meal, members asked how certain dishes were made and the bright idea came up “Should we create a cookbook”?

A cookbook is something we have never done. You usually see the Ladybugs planting annuals or perennials in the fair flower beds, on the traffic circle in downtown Greenville, planting containers at the Garst Museum or planting trees to help the environment. You see us at the Darke County fair flower shows working together to create and make a top notch flower show in entries of artistic and horticulture, plus all of the other work involved to make our show the best flower show in the State of Ohio. You see us promoting the Butterflies Junior Garden Club and decorating for Christmas at Wayne HealthCare, Garst Museum or Memorial Hall. You see us selling live greenery each year so our proceeds can help benefit community beautification in the area. The list goes on and on.

Each member was asked to provide at least 20 or 30 recipes as well as some input from the Butterflies Junior Garden Club. It was suggested that we look over our recipes during the winter and bring them to the April meeting where we would start determine how to go about the selection.

Five garden club members volunteered to type recipes for the cookbook company which saved on the price of the book. We asked for everything to be completed by the first of August for submitting to the cookbook publisher.

We received our final project last week and are thrilled with the way it turned out. Ladybug Garden Club members have copies for purchase at $12. They will make great Christmas gifts.

Ladybug members are Barbara Lennen, Shirley Linder, Lisa Marcum, Cindy McCallister, Barbara Skinner, Tiffany Stebbins, Sherri Jones, Sherry Ward, Irma Heiser, Dawn Hissong, Carol Hosbrook-Cole, Cathy Detrick, Dan Williams, Amy Erisman, Kelly Erisman, Becky Collins, Kim Cromwell, Amy Addis, Carol Baughman, Angela Beumer and myself.
