ARCANUM — Emily Aikman gravitated towards fashion as a career choice, until she got her own home.
Aikman, owner of the Blue Thistle Market, in Arcanum, Ohio, conducted a grand opening ceremony November 18.
“Home decor is something I absolutely love,” she said.
Aikman’s sister Jenni Blackburn, has always been a fan of Aikman’s style.
“When we were small, she was always stylish,” Blackburn said. “Her house has always been gorgeous. If I need something decorated, I go to my sister.”
The Blue Thistle’s shelves are stocked with unique household decor, such as colorfully printed pillows, old-fashioned ice-cream scoops, hand towels, cards, matchstick jars and pencils.
In addition, her husband, AJ, makes custom handmade items out of old barn wood and tin, such as crates, armoires, fireplace mantels and headboards that are sold in the store.
“Most companies I order from are smaller specialty shops,” Aikman said. “I try to get unique pieces and price them well.”
Arcanum’s Mayor Judy Foureman is thrilled, as the business brings people into the town.
“They have been so successful with their other businesses here,” she said. “We’re happy to have them.”
In addition to the Blue Thistle Market, members of Aikman’s family also own Belle Fiole Tanning and Spa and American Muscle Car, LLC, also located in Arcanum.
The Blue Thistle Market is located at 20 West George Street in Arcanum.
