GREENVILLE – The Greenville High School Parent Teacher Student Association (GHSPTSA) hosted breakfast with Santa, December 3, in the GHS cafeteria.
Visitors enjoyed breakfast casseroles, pancakes, doughnut holes, sausage, sausage cups, milk and juice. A cookie walk was also available, for those wanting to purchase sweets.
According to GHSPTSA Secretary Shannon Hayes, the breakfast is a fundraiser to raise money for scholarships and teacher appreciation. Usually two scholarships are awarded to senior student members of GHSPTSA, who apply, at the end of each school year. GHSPTSA Vice President Alyssa Blinn’s daughter, Natalie was a 2014 recipient. She also worked at the breakfast as a way to pay it forward, Alyssa said.
“The scholarship is a check for $500 to apply for anything they need,” Alyssa said. “We normally give two, but if we raise enough funds, we can give three.”
The GHSPTSA is comprised of about ten members, including administration, according to Shannon.
“We are always looking for more members,” she said. “If it wasn’t for the PTSA, we wouldn’t know about a lot of pertinent information, such as exam schedules, testing and certain events.”
For GHS student members, such as Senior Andy Hayes and Junior Cullen Blinn, PTSA gives them a voice.
“I started going to PTSA before my mom [Shannon Hayes] did,” Andy said. “I wanted to join a club. I feel more informed of some of the upcoming events. I also have direct contact with the administration if I have questions or concerns.”
Cullen is Alyssa Blinn’s son.
“I’m glad I get a chance to bring a student’s point of view to the meetings,” he said.
According to Alyssa, this Breakfast with Santa brought more people than some in the past.
“We went through at least 50 trays and we ran out of sausage,” she said.
“We never run out anything!” Shannon said.
GHSPTSA meetings take place at GHS, every second Monday of the month, at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.greenville.k12.oh.us.
