GREENVILLE — For seven days, Chris Caupp circled the city of Greenville carrying a cross he made to let people know that Jesus loves them.

“I want people to know that Jesus is coming back soon and God will break down the walls of the city after the seventh day,” said Caupp, who is from the Greenville area.

His son-in-law, Matthew Drew, helped him out one day.

Caupp said he made the cross himself, using a bicycle wheel to help make the daily trip easier.

Caupp decided to do this after reading Arthur Blessitt’s book about the man who carried a cross around the world in every nation.

According to his website, Blessitt is listed in the Guinness World Records for the world’s longest walk over 41,552 miles in 324 countries, islands groups and territories for 48 years.

“He’s still carrying it, mainly to let God be glorified,” Caupp said when stopped on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon in Greenville.

The local man said his walk begins at Family Health and he makes his way to Water Street, up North Broadway to Russ Road, then to Ohio 121 and Sater Street and back to Family Health for a total of eight miles.

“I may go different places,” he said. “I am doing this for the Lord, not myself.”

He said he was thinking about walking up and down Broadway Friday.
