VANDALIA – A second quarter surge propelled Greenville to a 62-56 victory Friday in Greater Western Ohio Conference boys basketball action at Vandalia-Butler.
Butler began Friday’s game with a 12-8 lead in the opening quarter. Greenville surged in the second quarter and outscored Butler 20-7 to go into the halftime break up 28-19. Greenville led 45-39 through three quarters on its way to the 6-point victory, winning 62-56.
Isaiah Gable led Greenville with a game-game 27 points in the victory. He also led the Green Wave with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Peter Pandey scored 12 points for Greenville, Will Coomer scored 10, Devin Hendrix scored 10, Aaron Rich scored 2, and Kyle Phillips scored 1.
Miles Joiner led Butler with 23 points. Also for the Aviators, Michael Kreill scored 19 points, Bryant Johnson scored 6, Trey Sanders scored 5, and Nathan Stogdill scored 3.
Butler out-rebounded Greenville 25-19 in the game and also had fewer turnovers, 12 to 14. But the Green Wave out-shot the Aviators. Greenville made 19 of its 38 field goal attempts for 50 percent while Butler made 23 of 48 for 47.9 percent. Greenville also made 76 percent of its free throws, 19 of 25, while Butler only made 6 of 14, 42.9 percent.
Greenville improved to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the GWOC with Friday’s victory while Butler fell to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the GWOC, having lost four games in a row.
Greenville will return to action on Jan. 10 at Trotwood-Madison. The Wave will face Butler again on Feb. 3 in Greenville.
