GREENVILLE – The Greenville wrestling team celebrated senior night and the 50th anniversary of Green Wave wrestling on Thursday prior to a match against Eaton.

Eaton won the match against Greenville 54-16.

“It wasn’t our best showing, but we did a few good things here and there,” Greenville coach David Guillozet said. “We’re still young. We’ve got a lot of work to do. That’s what we plan on trying to do … get in the room and work hard.”

Talawanda also was scheduled to compete but didn’t make the trip because of weather conditions.

Prior to the match Greenville honored its senior class. Christian Chalmers and Dodge Sucharda were unable to attend, but they were recognized along with fellow senior Jeremy Eshbaugh.

“They’re good kids,” Guillozet said. “They’re all very coachable. They all listen really well. They’re good to all their teammates. They’re real respectful. Can’t beat that in a senior class. They’re good role models for the younger kids.”

The match began with Eaton’s Christian Michael pinning Greenville’s Zach Foster one minute into the 195 pound match.

Greenville got on the scoreboard as Landin Brown won a 15-5 major decision over Eaton’s Tyler Schmidt in the 220 pound class, making the score 6-4 in favor of the Eagles.

Eaton’s Seth Bowman then pinned Blaine Hawley 27 seconds into the 285 pound match.

After Greenville’s Andrew Stachler won the 106 pound class by forfeit, Eaton’s Wade Monebrake beat Austin Lacey with a 16-0 technical fall in the 113 pound class to make the score 17-10.

Following a double forfeit in the 120 pound class, the Wave’s Dean Hurd lost 8-3 to Chris Weadick in the 126 pound match.

Jacob Mikesell lost in a 15-0 technical fall to Eaton’s Colman Manning in the 132 pound match, and Joseph Edwards was pinned 16 seconds into the 138 pound match by Eaton’s Noah Towe.

The Eagles’ Logan Chapin won the 145 pound match by forfeit, putting Eaton up 37-10.

Eshbaugh then pinned Eaton’s Ben Heggs with 41.7 seconds remaining in the first period of the 152 pound class to make it 37-16.

“That’s awesome,” Guillozet said of his senior getting a pin on senior night. “That’s good for him. He deserves it. Good kid. Works really hard. He’s a smart kid. He’s a good leader.”

Greenville’s Tytan Grote then lost via a 16-0 technical fall to Isaac Illo in the 160 pound match. Eaton’s Seth Hodapp won the 170 pound match by forfeit.

In the final match of the evening Greenville’s Caden Gonzalez was pinned by Spencer Reynolds 36 seconds into the 182 pound match, making the final score 54-16.

Prior to varsity competition, Jeff Shunk was pinned by Eaton’s Logan Coleman in a 285 pound match.
