Versailles boys basketball team defeats Lima Central Catholic

VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys basketball team beat defending Division III state champion Lima Central Catholic 70-48 Saturday night.

Versailles jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead and led 30-18 at halftime. The Tigers increased their lead to 50-28 in the third quarter on their way to the 22-point victory.

Justin Ahrens led Versailles with a game-high 25 points. Also for the Tigers, Alex Wendel scored 15 points, Connor Custenborder scored 10, Keaton McEldowney scored 7, AJ Ahrens scored 4, Sam Barga scored 2, Austin Knapke scored 2, Cole Niekamp scored 2, Evan Hiestand scored 1, Kyle Jones scored 1, and Noah Richard scored 1.

Mark Janowski led LCC with 15 points. Also for the Thunderbirds, Brayden O’Dell scored 11 points, Thomas Williams scored 6, DeMontre Garner scored 5, Jaron Banks scored 3, Raoul Samaroo scored 3, Brendan Stolly scored 2, Anthony Venturella scored 2, and DeAngelo Garner scored 1.

Versailles improved to 14-1 with the win. Lima Central Catholic fell to 3-12 with the loss.
