Sweet & Sassy: Always love your children

Son Jamie put another scare into me last weekend.

Early Saturday morning, about 20 or 30 minutes after he went to bed around midnight, I heard a sound coming from his room, so I ran [well, walked fast] in, and saw him seizing with his hands nearly straight into the air while he was lying on his back on the bed.

I immediately called for rescue, because he was unresponsive. In fact, he was still unresponsive when emergency officials got there. Friend Troy Kammer was first on the scene and he put Jamie on his side and kept him there until help arrived.

First, two rescue workers, Lucinda Ledbetter and John Snyder arrived, and three firefighters — Jerome Dotson, Cory Meadows and Cody Spencer — came to help get Jamie into the ambulance for a trip to the hospital.

Officials at the hospital said he started coming out of the seizure after he arrived there. We didn’t get home until almost 5:30 a.m., but he was a whole lot better.

I can’t remember him ever having a seizure while he was asleep, so now I will have to be aware that that can happen.

I wish there were a cure for Epilepsy, like there should be for every other life-threatening disease. I’ve told before, Jamie never had a seizure until three days after his 18th birthday, and they’ve been periodic ever since. They’re not all of the time, like they are for some people, and I’m so grateful for that.

It’s hard watching your child go through one of these and not being able to do something for him or her, whatever the case may be.

He pulled through again, thanks to the rescue people and the staff at Wayne HealthCare. He is back to his normal routine, although I think he should take it a little easy. But who am I? Just his mother.

I ran across this posting this week on Facebook and in the background of these words was a little baby.

“Not a mistake

“Not a problem

“Not a burden

“Not an inconvenience

“Not a nuisance

“Not an accident

“Not a punishment

“A miracle”

That’s how I feel about my son. I don’t know what I would ever do without him. I love you, Jamie.

As per the information on the story about Arthur Francis’s death in a traffic accident in Macon, Georgia, earlier this month, family members said the responding sheriff apparently had a couple of errors in what they said was a no-fault accident. Francis was 64 and the deceased’s date of death was Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. However, Francis would have turned 65 on Jan. 21.
