Roy White to make his 30th trip to Ohio Beef Expo

GREENVILLE — Not only will Roy White be attending the 30th annual Ohio Beef Expo in Columbus on March 17-19, he will be honored while there.

Why? For one thing, because he has been to each and every expo that has been held.

He will not only be recognized for that feat, but will also be named a Friend of the Expo.

“I’m lucky enough to receive these awards this year,” said White, owner of White Show Supply, located south of Greenville on U.S. 127. “Five other companies and I will be honored.”

He will be presented the awards on Saturday morning.

“We will go up Wednesday and start setting up exhibits on Thursday,” said White, who was a cattle owner until two years ago when he got too busy. “I have no time now. I did that pretty much all of my life. I grew up in Eaton and my brother [now living in Oklahoma] and I would show cattle, even at the Great Darke County Fair. Once I was out of school, I helped other people show cattle.”

He said the Ohio Beef Expo is one of his main events of the year. And, he is looking forward to going.

“They have right about probably 1,200 head of cattle there,” he said. “The breeding cattle shows will be on Friday and will sell on Saturday. On Sunday is the junior show for all 4-H kids. There will be a lot of Darke County contestants. Last year, there were 900 head of junior cattle.”

White said he has shown cattle all over this country…in Florida, Texas, Colorado and up to Wisconsin.

“I raised Angus, Simmental and crossbreds,” said White.

A former 4-H member, White said his father had been a 4-H adviser. He is the son of the late Carl and Marian White and, in addition to his brother, has a sister in Camden.

White handed out some awards at the recent Darke County Cattleman’s Association’s annual banquet.

“I usually present the herdsmen awards and this year helped present the scholarship awards,” he said.

He is vice president of the Darke County Cattlemen’s Association, and said he served as president five and six years ago.

White moved here from Eaton 13 years ago.

“This is a good agricultural county and has many things to offer,” said the 1975 graduate of Eaton High School.
