VERSAILLES — The Versailles Area Museum is honored to host local historian, Mary Ann Olding, at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19.

Olding has, since 2006, embarked on 19 trips and counting to the island of Cuba. She has been there learning the Spanish language, studying, learning, and most interesting, meeting the people of this island nation.

“While Cuba, located in the northern Caribbean, is only 93 miles south of the United States mainland, and yet most of us know only about the missile crisis and it’s Communist government we know nothing about this nation’s history, food, and culture,” said a spokesperson. “Mary Ann will take us through the Cuba’s colorful history and culture of the Cuban people and also share some of their most impressive art. Mary Ann is currently preparing the first US showing of much of Cuba’s vast art collection. This program is not being duplicated anywhere, so please plan to join us as we cross the warm, blue waters of the Caribbean to learn the fascinating story about our neighbors just off Florida’s coast.”

On March 26 at 1 p.m. the museum will enjoy its “Last Monday” for March as those in attendance will reminisce about the 1950 and ’60s.

“If you graduated during this time, bring your classmates, old photos and memories to share, as we listen to some wonderful music, play a little trivia and get lost in those by gone days,” said a spokesperson. “As always both events are free and the museum is open for you to browse our new displays. Light refreshments are served at both events and we welcome donations of cookies and snacks for these events.”
