VERSAILLES — The International Eastern Wine Competition, started in 1975, is one of the oldest and longest-running wine competitions in the nation. It has combined this competition with the West Coast Wine Competition to see exactly where East Meets West.
Wines are simultaneously judged in two divisions: International Eastern Wine Competition and the West Coast Wine Competition. Traditional awards will be given in each division.
Best of Show winners will move on to compete in the East Meets West Taste Off to see which wine reigns overall. This affords wines two chances to win.
And the Riesling Championship continues. Rieslings will be judged in both competitions to award a best Eastern Riesling and a best Western Riesling.
The Winery at Versailles entered six wines and all six wines received medals in either the gold or silver category with one Best of Class! (*Only 19 wines received this recognition out of over 1,300 entries!) The winery won the following awards:
*Rodeo Red: Best of Class and Gold
*Blueberry Mist: Gold
*Wintry Nights: Gold
*Cabernet Sauvignon: Silver
*Happily Ever After: Silver
*Summer Days: Silver
“Way to go winemakers Mike Williams and David Coons and way to represent Darke County in a very tough competition,” said a winery representative.
