Arcanum News: Serve Arcanum

0

Arcanum High School looks forward to celebrating their fifth annual Serve Arcanum on Friday, May 5 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The students of Arcanum High School (assisted by teachers and community members) will go out into the community and serve our citizens through a variety of service projects. This is the fifth year for this outstanding project that helps the citizens of our community. Organizers are soliciting opportunities for our students to assist you, your organization, or your business, with projects that they could help you complete. You provide the job and supplies and they will provide the manpower. If you are interested in us helping you, please fill out the request form on the attached brochure and mail it to the high school or email High School Principal Jason Stephan at [email protected]. Over the last four years, Arcanum High School students have completed over 170 different projects to help the people of our school district.

Another service project you might want to participate in is by the adults from Immanuel Baptist Church (IBC) at 500 West South Street. On Saturday, May 6 from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. they want to service you. Does your vehicle need a little TLC (tender-loving-care)? Hopefully they can help put the shine back on your vehicle and a little pep in your step by offering any member of the community a free car wash – absolutely free, no donation will be received. The IBC Family wants to serve you by bringing back the shine to your vehicle and a smile to your face. Let them serve you at no cost.

Last week I introduced to you Delanie Jae Bush who made her entrance into this world to Tannis and Kylie (Smith) Bush of Milford, Ohio on April 1, 2017. Her paternal grandparents Jay and Peggy Bush are from Greenville, Ohio. This information was not submitted to me originally and I wanted to congratulate them as well. So Congrats Everyone!

In 1987, Pastor Greg Greve was called to Arcanum to serve as the pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church. On Sunday, May 28th the congregation of IBC will be honoring Pastor Greg for his 30 years of faithful service with a special Worship Service, Celebration Meal and Recognition Service. More details will come out soon!

This summer, Conor Pohl, 2016 Arcanum Graduate, and also a 6 foot 5 inch, 220 pound left-handed hitting 3rd-baseman who vaporizes baseballs and can pitch will play a pivotal role with the 2017 Front Royal Cardinals. Conor just completed his freshman year at The Ohio State University. Conor…it is great to see you wearing scarlet and grey and representing Arcanum!

Congratulations to Arcanum senior Marcy Bradshaw who will run at the Division I NCAA Level with the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans. Marcy, the daughter of Lori and Jeff Bradshaw, is excited about competing at the Division I level,

will run both cross country and track and field for the Spartans in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Marcy was drawn to the USC Upstate because of its education program and her goal to become a special education teacher. Way to go Marcy!

Congratulations to Arcanum senior Isaac Stephens who committed last week to run cross country and track and field for the University of Rio Grande. Isaac is the son of Matt and Kati Stephens. Stephens has been contemplating running at the college level for a few years now, he is unsure of what he will study as his major currently. The U of RG Red Storm are thrilled to get a commitment from Stephens who they think can contribute right away to the cross country and track teams. Congrats Isaac!

Arcanum’s Old Fashioned Days plans are well underway! Organizers would like to take the opportunity to thank a few more sponsors for the DockDogs® competition coming this year – Second National Bank and Drs, Dickman, Kettler & Bruner; thank you for supporting Arcanum. Additionally, it was announced that T & C Motorsports will be sponsoring the chain saw artist, Dayle Lewis. Mark your calendar for May 19, 20 and 21 – it will be here before you know it!

The Pitsburg Church of the Brethren will be hosting Darke County’s own, Harmony Quartet on Sunday, May 7 at 6 p.m. Harmony has been singing together since 1997. They came together singing songs of the Statler Brothers and Oak Ridge Boys – both secular and gospel. They were introduced to Southern Gospel through the Gaither concerts and immediately began including some of them in their repertoire. The songs they sing reflect a love of God and tell stories from the Bible. The group is made up of Bill Drew, singing tenor, Terry Longfellow, singing bass, Mike Royer singing baritone and second tenor, and Bruce Shank, singing lead. The public is cordially invited to this event. Refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the performance. The church is located on the west edge of Pitsburg, Ohio, at 8376 Pitsburg-Laura Road.
