COVINGTON – The Tri-Village softball team tied the game in the seventh inning Monday night but then lost 8-7 to Covington.
After both teams scored one run in the first inning, Tri-Village took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. Covington tied the game with one run in the second and one in the third then took a 4-3 lead with one run in the fourth inning.
Covington increased its lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning then Mississinawa Valley scored three runs in the sixth to reduce its deficit to 7-6. Tri-Village tied the game in the seventh inning, but Covington scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to win 8-7.
Tri-Village had seven hits and three errors. Covington had 11 hits and no errors.
Trisa Porter went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI for Tri-Village. Shelby Frech was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Payge Malott was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Allie Downing went 1-for-4.
Kloey Murphey walked four times, stole a base and scored three runs. Andi Bietry walked three times, stole a base and scored a run. Rachel Miller walked twice and scored a run. Shelby Holzapfel walked once and scored a run.
Porter pitched the complete game, allowing four earned runs and four unearned runs on 11 hits, seven walks and one strikeout.
