Versailles baseball team wins at Delphos St. John’s

DELPHOS – Versailles beat Delphos St. John’s 16-9 in a Midwest Athletic Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

Versailles caught fire early with eight runs in the second inning. After St. John’s scored two runs in the bottom of the second, Versailles added one run in the third to make it 9-2.

St. John’s scored five in the bottom of the third to pull within 9-7, but Versailles scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull further ahead, 15-7. St. John’s added a run in the sixth inning then both teams scored one more run in the seventh.

Versailles had 13 hits and five errors while St. John’s had 11 hits and no errors.

Noah Grisez went 3-for-3, doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch, scored three runs and drove in four runs. Cole Neikamp was 3-for-4 with a double, a RBI and three runs. Kyle Subler went 3-for-6 with a double, two runs and four RBI. Kurtis Rutschilling was 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and a run.

Jacob Heitkamp was 1-for-2 with three walks, two runs and a RBI. Keaton McEdowney was 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBI and a run. Noah Richard was 1-for-5 with a RBI and a run. Isaac Ruhenkamp was hit by a pitch, walked and scored a run. Will Eversole and Austin Knapke both walked once and scored a run.

Heitkamp pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs and two unearned runs on seven hits, no walks and three strikeouts. Zach Griesdorn pitched one inning, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk. Richard pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits, four walks and three strikeouts.
