EATON – Versailles run ruled Milton-Union 11-1 in five innings of an Ohio High School Athletic Association sectional championship baseball game on Wednesday.
Versailles struck first in Wednesday’s game with four runs in the bottom half of the second inning. After Milton-Union scored its lone run in the top of the third, Versailles scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning then added five more in the fifth.
Versailles finished the game with 11 hits and one error while Milton-Union had three hits and two errors.
Cole Niekamp led Versailles offensively by going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Keaton McEdowney was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a RBI and two runs. Isaac Ruhenkamp was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run. Kurtis Rutschilling was 2-for-3, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in a run.
Noah Grisez was 1-for-1 with two walks, two stolen bases, two runs and one RBI. Noah Richard was 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Kyle Subler drove in two runs. Jacob Heitkamp walked and scored a run. Austin Knapke was hit by a pitch and walked once.
Elliot Bruns pitched the complete game for Versailles, allowing one unearned run on three hits, four walks and five strikeouts.
Versailles now will play Cincinnati Country Day at 5 p.m. Friday at Hamilton High School in the district finals.
