A new Darke County author has her book available through Amazon. Brit Laux of New Madison has published a story of struggle and set backs for the main character before finding her way to love and happiness.
“All Things New” marks her first venture into book publishing. Married to Louis, the couple has three children. Check out this new paperback.
The Universalist Church is in the midst of a new study for May and June. Love for the Elderly is a non profit organization whose mission is self explanatory — to provide love for our senior citizens who may be spending lonely hours in assisted living or nursing home situations. The church is leading a project to write letters and create and distribute gift boxes to touch lonely lives.
A young boy who lost his grandfather and found healing in visiting residents of nursing homes has started this program of senior appreciation. Jacob Cramer of Pepper Pike, Ohio, started his mission in 2013 and today has seen awareness touch others in over 50 countries and six continents. Calendar dates to mark will be the summer reading program at the New Madison Public Library with the theme “Build a Better World.” And, the 5K race is June 3 and students are encouraged to join in the walk/run. This is held at the United Methodist Church. Participants under age 14 are not charged a registration fee. Those over 65 also participate without a fee.
Also remember the Memorial Day activities with services on May 28 in New Madison and May 29 in Hollansburg, Longtown and Palestine. Sunday begins at 11 a.m. at the Otterbein Cemetery, followed by a noon service at Fort Jefferson and 2 p.m. at Green Mound in New Madison.
The Monday services (29th) include 10 a.m. at the Palestine Cemetery, 11 a.m. at Longtown and 1 p.m. at Hollansburg Cemetery.
Poppy Days are May 26 and 27. All proceeds go to veteran needs so donate and proudly wear your poppy.
A special service is planned for blessing of animals on May 28 at the United Methodist Church.
This week’s congratulations go to: Rachel Christ of Tri-Village. She has been selected by the American Legion auxiliary to attend Buckeye Girls State. I believe we need our young people to find ways to make government work with civility and bi-partisan patriotism.
