Arcanum News: Family Movie Night in downtown Arcanum


The summer is mid-way through and what better way to mark it than coming out to downtown Arcanum for a free movie under the stars. The Arcanum Area Business Association will be sponsoring their Third Annual Family Movie Night on Saturday, July 15, beginning at 5 p.m. and concluding with a free showing of the Disney movie “Moana.”

Everyone is invited to downtown Arcanum on West George Street to enjoy food from local food vendors including Creme de la Creme Cakery, Nacho Pig and Tennessie’s Philippine Cuisine. Entertainment for the children will include Willie the Clown, face painting, and multiple free Bounce Houses. The featured Disney movie “Moana” will be playing in the Ben Franklin parking lot starting at dusk. Bring your own lawn chairs and/or a blanket for the movie and enjoy the film along with free popcorn provided by the Arcanum Utility Department.

Prior to the movie at 9 p.m., there will be a drawing for 45 “kid-friendly” prizes. To enter, you just need to visit one of the food vendors during the evening and receive a blue raffle ticket. No purchase is necessary, but you must be present at the drawing to win a prize.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society is located at 123 W. George St. the historical society is open the first Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. On the second Saturday you can view the displays and visit the reference library prior to the Coffee and Conversation event which begins at 10 a.m. To learn the contents of the reference library visit our website: The Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday morning for the summer from 9 a.m. to noon in Veteran’s Park next to AWTHS. Did you know that the Arcanum Pool is available for private parties? Now that the summer is here it’s the perfect time to host a pool party! The Arcanum Pool is available to rent for private parties every evening (based on availability) for the summer! To make your reservation call the Village of Arcanum offices at 692-8500 or see the pool manager at the pool or call the pool at 692-8230 to check the schedule and set up your summer fun! The pool is available for three hours for the rental fee of $150 which includes lifeguards. Have your company picnic, birthday celebration, club outing, family gathering or your church group, 4-H club, sports team, or family reunion at the Village of Arcanum Pool. Bring toys, games, and have a great time splashing around! Snacks, meals and cake are permitted. When it comes to keeping cool in the summertime, the Arcanum Pool is one of the best deals in town.

In an effort to improve the safety and efficiency for student bus transportation, the Arcanum-Butler Local School District will be implementing new procedures for the 2017-2018 school year. The change in procedures is meant to address an increasing issue of requests for daily bus changes and an increasing number of phone calls to our bus drivers or to our offices for non-emergency changes. On Sunday, June 4, 96 students from the AHS Class of 2017 graduated. Brittany Kinney was Valedictorian of the Class of 2017. Kalista Harleman was the Salutatorian. Both students delivered outstanding speeches. The annual Music Awards Banquet took place at the end of the school year. Awards were given to each music student for years of service in the band. Allison Moore received the John Phillip Sousa Award. Emma Smith received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, and the Tiffany Furgason Memorial Band Scholarship was presented to Shelby Horsza.
