Versailles girls golf team wins the Covington Eagles Lady Buccs Invitational

PIQUA – Versailles’ girls golf team began the 2017 season with a victory in the Covington Eagles Lady Buccs Invitational on Monday at Echo Hills Golf Course in Piqua.

Arcanum and Franklin Monroe also competed in the nine-team invitational that included golfers from Covington, Fort Loramie, Miami East, National Trail, New Bremen and St. Henry.

Versailles won the invitational by shooting a 366, besting second-place St. Henry by six strokes. Miami East finished third with a 405 team score, New Bremen was fourth with a 417, Arcanum finished fifth with a 431, National Trail was sixth with a 433, Fort Loramie placed seventh with a 436, Franklin Monroe was eighth with a 495, and Covington finished ninth with a 562.

Lauren Durham led Versailles with an 18-hole round of 86. Also for the Lady Tigers, Morgan Barlage shot a 91, Jorja Pothast shot a 94, Morgan Heitkamp shot a 95, Anna Groff shot a 97, and Taylor Martin shot a 123.

Lexi Unger led Arcanum with a round of 83. Also for the Lady Trojans, Sydney Artz shot a 107, Madison Mankin shot a 112, Elliana Sloan shot a 129, Alexandria Less shot a 130, and Araya Musselman shot a 131.

Claire Haviza led Franklin Monroe with a round of 99. Also for the Lady Jets, Grace Zimmerman shot a 113, Breanna Lavy shot a 139, Grace Fee shot a 144, Josie Patrick shot a 151, and Sierra Keller shot a 164.

National Trail’s Makenna Jones was the tournament medalist with a 3-over par 75 for the 18-hole round. Arcanum’s Lexi Unger finished as the runner-up with a round of 83.

St. Henry’s Allyson Hemmelgarn and Ellen Naumann tied for third place as they both shot an 84 while Miami East’s Paige Lawson and Versailles’ Lauren Durham tied for fifth by both shooting an 86.

St. Henry’s Karlee Staugler and Versailles’ Morgan Barlage tied for seventh place as both girls shot a 91. Versailles’ Jorja Pothast finished ninth with a 94, and Versailles’ Morgan Heitkamp finished 10th with a 95.
