





























CELINA – Greenville’s girls tennis team swept Celina 5-0 on Wednesday in Celina to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In first singles Greenville’s Natalie Milligan beat Grace Gabes 6-1, 6-0. In the second singles match the Lady Wave’s Anna Manges beat Sierra Zuercher 6-2, 6-0. In third singles the Wave’s Emily Marchal beat Sara Hellwarth 6-0, 6-0.
In first doubles Greenville’s Abby Swensen and Addie Haupt beat Allie Lehman and Christina Harting 6-1, 6-3. In second doubles the Wave’s Marabelle Lance and Casey Malott beat Lexi Noll and Skye Grube 6-7, 6-4, 10-6.
“Celina’s always been good,” Greenville girls tennis coach Jim Koontz said. “They’re a decent team. St. Marys and Celina are both decent. We beat them 5-0, St. Marys.”
Prior to defeating Celina, Greenville beat St. Marys 5-0 and lost 4-1 to Beavercreek.
In the Beavercreek match on Tuesday Marchal beat Melinda Dacri-Kim 6-0, 6-0 in third singles. Milligan lost 2-6, 4-6 to Julia Bays in first singles while Manges lost 2-6, 1-6 to Dhira Venkatramani in second singles.
Haupt and Swensen lost 2-6, 3-6 to Beavercreek’s Esther Hu and Vania Jiao, and Malott and Alison Baughman lost 5-7, 3-6 in second doubles.
“Playing Beavercreek, they had their eyes opened,” Koontz said of his players.
Koontz expects the Lady Wave to have another strong season this year even though they have a young team.
“They’re doing good,” Koontz said. “We’re doing alright. I thought we could have a good season, and hopefully we’ll keep working hard and we will. You’ve just got to hang in there.”
