On September 14 at 7 p.m. Arcanum High School Agriculture Program Instructor, Brian Pohlman will be at the Wayne Trail Historical building to share about the FFA program at AHS. Did you know after a long hiatus agriculture education returned to Arcanum Schools this past school year? Arcanum is a great farming community. Wayne Trail Historical Society wants to encourage our young people in agricultural education and the FFA program. AWTHS has invited the instructor Brian Pohlman to share students’ accomplishments of the first year and tell of program goals for the future on September 14 at 7 p.m. at the historical society building, 123 W. George St.

Some of the students have been invited to come also to share their experience. Agriculture Education and Future Farmers of America made a comeback, with the district partnering with the Miami Valley Career Technology Center. Starting in middle school students attended classes in agriculture education and high school student were given several class options. Many of the students did well in regional and State competitions. This is a welcomed scholastic program to our farming community school. Everyone is welcome to attend and to learn what is happening in today’s agriculture education program.

On Sunday, September 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. the AWTHS will host “Center School” at the old school house located at 6891 Grubbs-Rex Road on the farm of Tom and Barb Jackson. In a very unique celebration the schoolhouse will be OPEN for class at 2 p.m. that day with a history lesson on the area school. If you want to make a day of it, you can get the instructions from AWTHS to then drive the self-guided driving tour of other old school houses in Twin and Van Buren Township. Brochures can be downloaded from: More info on school and event listed at: What a neat excursion idea! Thank you AWTHS!

Labor Day is annually held on the first Monday of September. It was originally organized to celebrate various labor associations’ strengths of and contributions to the United States economy. It is largely a day of rest in modern times. Many people mark Labor Day as the end of the summer season and a last chance to make trips or hold outdoor events. Enjoy the holiday!

“Summer ends, and Autumn comes, and he who would have it otherwise would have high tide always and a full moon every night.” ― Hal Borland

“August rain: the best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time.” ― Sylvia Plath
