Franklin Monroe boys soccer team loses to tough Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy squad

PITSBURG – It was an early season test for Franklin Monroe boys soccer team as the Jets hosted Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in non-conference soccer action.

The Jets went down 1-0 early when a corner shot by CHCA was headed in the goal at the 36-minute mark.

FM hung tough with a very talented and deep CHCA squad but trailed 2-0 when a cleared ball was sent back into the goal at the 11-minute mark.

With time dwindling away in the first half, Luke Booher pushed the ball deep and with just two seconds left on the clock took a shot that just squeezed past the goalie’s fingers to give the Jets much needed momentum heading into the locker room trailing 2-1.

“We are a pretty young team and learning on the go,” long-time FM boys soccer coach Danny Diceanu said. “We are only going to get better. We made some lineup position changes with Luke Booher moving to the front, and it paid off. He has a lot of energy and causes problems with his pace and physicality. He ended up scoring at the end of the half because he was aggressive on the ball. That lifted us as a team and watching them come in the locker room after that felt nice.”

In the second half CHCA caught a good break when the ball hit off the crossbar and only to roll directly to an uncovered guy who placed the kick into the goal at the 33-minute mark to go up 3-1.

Five minutes later the Lions added an insurance goal on a fast and furious rally. After a save by Kaleb Poe the ball would stay alive and a short shot gave CHCA a 4-1 advantage.

“We were down 2-1, and then they got that third goal on a loose ball tucked into the near post and that hurt,” Diceanu said. “Then we tried to press and got caught out of position, and that led to the fourth goal.”

Franklin Monroe had several attempts to cut into the lead and eventually got a goal at the two-minute mark on a 50/50 ball between a CHCA player and Cole McGlinch to make the score 4-2.

Moments later the Jets had another furious attack but CHCA held strong to thwart any last-minute heroics by the home team to escape town with a 4-2 win.

“They (CHCA) are a very good soccer team,” Diceanu said. “They do a lot of the little things well, they are fast, move and pass the ball well … if not for a couple goals where we fell asleep and stopped putting pressure on them we’re right where we want to be.

“I was pleased tonight with our effort and energy. We didn’t get the result wanted … but we’re moving in the right direction. Everybody got to play; that experience along with effort and energy is what this team needs, and that will lead to better results in the near future,” Diceanu concluded.
