Darke County Fairboard discusses changes

GREENVILLE — During Wednesday’s Darke County Fairboard meeting, Jana Deeter returned to give the board an update on moving the “Hamburger Shoppe” located at 100 Martin Street, onto the fairgrounds for a museum.

She said the building was too expensive to move and asked the board for permission to have a 14 foot by 24 foot building permanently built on the grounds. The building would house original elements from the Hamburger Shoppe and other memorabilia. She said the community has shown interest in donating funds for the building. The board said they would take a tour of the grounds, discuss the idea in a work meeting, and get back with her at the next meeting.

In a Junior Fairboard report, Junior Fair Coordinator Beth Martin said everything went smoothly at the fair. She said the kids enjoyed using the iPads for the Junior Fair-related events. In other news, Fairboard member Cindy Riffle suggested a workshop on having a shuttle/taxi area in place by the end of the year. The board will make a date for that meeting. Fairboard member Dave Niley said due to the success of the Derby, he wants to see about scheduling it earlier this year. The Derby brought in 177 cars, the most in several years, he said.

Approved motions were as follows: to allow Bowman’s Texas Tenderloin to sell its trailer to Bobby Feist, leaving the old trailer in the location it has been but changing ownership – It will be the same same trailer and food, just new ownership; to allow pastor John from the Darke County Church Greater Greenville Ministerial Association to work on getting a sidewalk from the double doors at the west end to the paved roadway; having harness racing on Wednesday and Thursday ,and motorcycle races on the last Friday; buying trees from Brown’s Nursery Auction to be planted in the main area on the grounds; setting National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) date for the Tuesday of the fair, and sending them the entry fee money to lock in the date; an additional $200 dollars for the Darke county horseshoe pitchers for premiums.

The next Fairboard meeting will take place Wednesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m.
