Greenville tennis players finish 3rd in OHSAA sectional tournament

TROY – Greenville’s girls tennis team finished the Ohio High School Athletic Association sectional tournament with third-place finishes in singles and doubles.

Greenville sophomore Natalie Milligan finished third in singles while Lady Wave sophomores Addie Haupt and Abby Swensen finished third in doubles.

The three Greenville girls each advanced to the sectional semifinals on Wednesday then competed again on Saturday.

Milligan lost 6-4, 6-2 to Vandalia-Butler junior Xia Lin, who finished as the sectional runner-up, in the semifinals. Milligan then beat Wayne senior Sidney Bailey 6-3, 6-3 in the third-place match.

Swensen and Haupt lost 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinals to Troy senior Emma Kazmaier and junior Katie Sherrick, the eventual sectional champions. The Lady Wave duo then beat Northmont juniors Ayana McCain and Ashton Slusher 6-4, 6-3 in the third place match.

Milligan, Swensen and Haupt now will compete in the OHSAA district tournament on Thursday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason. Milligan will face St. Ursula Academy sophomore Kellie Hannan in the first round while Swensen and Haupt will face St. Ursula Academy juniors Gabby Gockerman and Taylor Kunci.
