Congratulations Arcanum Elementary art teacher Heather Wackler! She was named Ohio Art Education Association’s (OAEA) Outstanding Art Teacher is the western Ohio region. Arcanum is lucky to have you!

The Arcanum Public Library on Monday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. will host the New York Times bestselling author, AHS Class of 1978 graduate, and native Linda Castillo, author of the very popular Kate Burkholder series. Linda will give a talk and sign books, a small amount of books will be available for purchase. Linda’s maiden name was Coble, she is anxious to have the opportunity to see her hometown again and see old classmates, teachers, and friends.

October Happenings you’ll don’t want to miss – The Bean Supper and Halloween Parade is Thursday, October 26 starting at approximately 4 p.m., the parade line-up will be at the field house with the parade beginning at 6 p.m. Trick or Treat is Sunday, October 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society is looking for gently used Christmas items for their upcoming Holiday Bazaar in November. You can drop off donations on the back porch. They also wish to have you join them, membership is open to anyone in the community at any time. They also have extra issues of past Arcettes (Arcanum High School yearbooks) for sales at $5 each. If you are interested in a specific year, please give Joyce Colville a call at 692-8685.

The Blue Star Moms is a group of local mothers of our military personnel who are preparing to send Christmas Stockings filled with small treats, games, personal items, etc. to our sons and daughters serving our country. They are presently seeking donations of items for the stockings in the Darke, Preble, Butler Ohio counties and also Randolph and Wayne counties in Indiana. They are a 501(c) (3) IRS designated non-profit organization. Locally, there are Donation Boxes at both Suttons in Arcanum and Union City. They are also looking for volunteers to help pack the boxes on November 11 in Eaton. If you have a family member who is away from home in the military, please send them their name and address for a stocking. For more information or questions, please call Linda at 937-456- 1588.

Abbottsville UMC on State Route 49 invites you to join them for their Harvest Dinner on Saturday, November 4 starting at 4 p.m. until the food runs out! They will be serving for a Good Will Offering the following: Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, bread dressing, cole slaw, cucumber salad, cranberry salad, deviled eggs, punch and coffee. There will be homemade pies and cakes for dessert and also whole pies for sale to take home with you!

You are invited to a Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon at the Family of God Ministries located at 301 W. South Street in Arcanum from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4. They will have handcrafted items, baked goods, nuts and candies for sale. Raffle tickets will be available on a Queen-sized quilt $1 each or 6 for $5. Soups, Sandwiches, desserts, and beverages will be offered for lunch. All proceeds will go the church building fund.

Put this on your Calendar! You won’t want to miss “Fall Into Christmas” at Brumbaugh’s Fun and Fruit Farm on Saturday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 6420 Arcanum Hollansburg Road. There will be craft vendors and local artisans, food trucks (McNasty’s, Tin Roof Mobile Food, Kettle Fixins and Creme de la Creme Cakery), chainsaw sculptor, live music, Santa Claus (12 to 5 p.m.), live nativity and petting zoo (12 to 5 p.m.). Fun farm admission is $8 or SAVE $3 when you bring three can goods for the Thanksgiving Food Drive which will be donated to FHC Fellowship Church in Arcanum. The admission price includes hay rides, Winnie’s Cracked Corn Box, Human Hampster Wheel, Willy Worm Wagon Express, Billy Bee’s Flight o’ Fun, Storybook Forest, Monster Mountain and Grandpa’s Fun Acre. This event is hosted by The Arcanum Business Association.

On Saturday, December 9 an inaugural Christmas in the Park & Horse Parade will come to Arcanum. This event is co-hosted by the Arcanum Area Business Association and the Arcanum Athletic Boosters. Parade entries that will be accepted are horse-drawn carriages, wagons and buggies; additionally they will also accept motorized vehicles for the parade that are decorated with festive Christmas lights.
