Versailles volleyball team wins district championship over Madeira

CLAYTON – Versailles advanced to the sweet 16 of the Ohio High School Athletic Association volleyball tournament with a sweep of Madeira in the district finals on Saturday at Northmont.

Versailles won the match 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 for its fourth consecutive sweep in the Division III tournament.

Danielle Winner led Versailles with 16 kills in the match against Madeira while Elizabeth Ording added 11. Danielle Winner also led the Tigers with four blocks, Lindsey Winner had three, and Raegen Shaffer had two.

Kami McEldowney had a team-high 18 digs, and Caitlin McEldowney had 11. Ellen Peters led the Tigers with 36 assists. Kate Stammen had four aces while Kami McEldowney and Cassie Peters added three each.

Versailles now advances to the regional semifinals of the OHSAA tournament. The Tigers will play Johnstown-Monroe at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fairmont High School in Kettering.
