GWOC, MAC football teams to play for OHSAA state championships

CANTON – Two Midwest Athletic Conference football teams and one Greater Western Ohio Conference football team will play for Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships this weekend.

Trotwood-Madison from the GWOC plus Marion Local and Minster from the MAC will play this weekend for OHSAA state championships. All seven state championship games will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton and will be televised live by Spectrum Sports on Channel 311 statewide.

Minster will play Cuyahoga Heights at 10 a.m. Friday for the Division VII state championship.

Minster is returning to the state finals after finishing as the Division VII state runner-up last year. The Wildcats’ opponent, Cuyahoga Heights, finished as the Division VI state runner-up to Marion Local last year.

The MAC has had a team in the Division VII state finals every year since the division was created in 2013. The conference won three of the first four Division VII state championships with Minster’s loss last year being the lone blemish.

Marion Local will play Kirtland at 10 a.m. Saturday for the Division VI state championship.

Marion, the defending Division VI state champion, is making is seventh consecutive appearance in the state finals. The Flyers won five of their past six state final appearances, losing to Kirtland in the 2015 Division VI state championship game.

Trotwood-Madison will play Dresden Tri-Valley at 8 p.m. Saturday for the Division III state championship.

Trotwood is returning to the state finals after finishing as the Division III state runner-up a year ago.

Friday

Div. VII – No. 5 Cuyahoga Heights (12-1) vs. Minster (10-4), 10 a.m.

Div. V – No. 3 Wheelersburg (14-0) vs. No. 1 Pemberville Eastwood (14-0), 3 p.m.

Div. I – No. 8 Pickerington Central (13-1) vs. No. 6 Mentor (13-1), 8 p.m.

Saturday

Div. VI – No. 1 Maria Stein Marion Local (14-0) vs. No. 2 Kirtland (14-0), 10 a.m.

Div. IV – No. 7 Clarksville Clinton-Massie (13-1) vs. No. 1 Steubenville (14-0), 3 p.m.

Div. III – Dresden Tri-Valley (13-1) vs. No. 1 Trotwood-Madison (14-0), 8 p.m.
