Anna Bier Gallery presents annual high school art exhibit

GREENVILLE – The Anna Bier Gallery will present the annual Darke County high school art exhibit on Thursday with open house from 6-8 p.m. and announcement of awards at 7 p.m.

An additional open house will coincide with Darke County Center for the Arts production of the Toledo Symphony on May 19, prior to the event and during intermission.

Each county school is part of the Art Start Program, funded by Darke County Endowment for the Arts and hosted by the Anna Bier Gallery. These funds are distributed each year to the schools in support of their art programs.

In March, Gallery Director Tamera McNulty and Art Instructor Chrissy Cox traveled to each school and selected works to be juried and exhibited in the gallery through the month of May.

The history of Anna Bier dates back to the early 1900s. She was an art teacher for much of her life, dedicated to inspiring youth by encouraging free expression through the world of visual arts. Upon her death, Bier’s charitable spirit lived on.

She willed her home and all of its contents to the future hope that Greenville would become “a place where people of all colors, all creeds and all walks of life could work for the development of artistic skills and higher cultural standards for their community”.

The mission of the Anna Bier Art Gallery is to continue that vision while raising awareness of the visual arts. This elementary exhibit is a pure reflection of the young artists in our community and all of the teachers and supporters who have encouraged them.

The Anna Bier Gallery would like to express its deepest gratitude to all those who have made this event possible. These gracious organizations and sponsors include: The Darke County Endowment for the Arts, the Harry Stephens Memorial trust and Hanes Law Group, Pat and Roy Haines for their gracious donation and all the generous support of its loyal members. The gallery also would like to thank the small businesses in the community for the services they provide in helping bring this together: artwork mounted by B&B Frame Gallery; promotional postcards and award certificates printed by Rapid Printing.

All exhibits are free to the public. Gallery hours are Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and by appointment. Contact Executive Director Tamera McNulty with any questions or comments. Feel free to visit the Anna Bier Gallery on its Facebook page for more information.
